Fernand Baudin Prize

Most Beautiful Books

Opening: Friday Octobre 10 at 6:30 p.m., Presentation at 7 p.m., 4th floor

The Fernand Baudin Prize, named after Belgian “typographist” Fernand Baudin, is Prize for the Most Beautiful Books in Brussels and Wallonia. Inspired by international historical and famous “most beautiful books competitions”, the Fernand Baudin Prize consists of a special recognition that is given to books which demonstrate an outstanding quality both in their conception (editorial and graphic) as in their production (printing and binding).

Today, this initiative aims at being a platform for encounters and reflexions about contemporary bookmaking, its actors and its actual challenges, embracing all book categories: from the art book to the children’s book, the cooking book and other technical books.

For its sixth edition, the Fernand Baudin Prize wishes to stress its central reflexion: What is a beautiful book today? Is it enough to take into account its formal criteria to talk about a book and judge it? How to judge the inter- action between form and content? How to set common criterias for different book categories? How to highlight the diversity in the book practices? How can we make a stand and react to the current changes in the book’s ecosystem? What is, or what could be, the role of the Fernand Baudin Prize?

In an attempt to answer these questions, the Fernand Baudin Prize proposes a program in which the format of the contest is enriched by several events: encounters, exhibitions, conferences, performances.
