Can one make a film out of words? Can the statement worth the film? In experimental cinema and contemporary art today one notes a host of filmic practices that seek to replace film by its enunciation, in the form of illustrated lectures, readings or performances.

Curiously, numerous of these hypotheses were developed within the lettrisme movement since the 1950s: the debate instead of the movie, the hypergraphic novel, the instructions to the projectionist, the imaginary and super temporal art.

Érik Bullot is filmmaker and theorist. He realized more than twenty films, in between artist film and experimental cinema. He showed his work at the Biennale of Moving Image in Geneva in 2005 and recently published Renversements 2 (Paris Expérimental, 2013) and Sortir du cinéma. Histoire virtuelle des relations de l'art et du cinéma (Mamco, 2013). He is currently teaching cinema at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art of Bourges.
